Washington- 15-5-2006 president Bush said Monday night he will send as many as 6,000 National guards troops to the U.S border with Mexico to stop the flood of illegal imigrants, part of an administration drive to win conservative support in congress for an election-year overhault of the nation’s tattered immigration laws.
"We do not have full control of the border and Iam determined to change that," the president said in pressing for his $1.9 billion plan in a 17-minute-prime-time address from the Oval office.
Bush gave strong support to a plan that would give many of the 12 million illigal immigrants in the United States and eventually chance of citizenship-a move derided by some conservatives as ammnesty. He rejected that term.
President Bush called for a worker program that "Would meet the needs of our economy, and it would give honest immigrants a way to provide for their families while respecting the law"
